Crossed Wires

Today's attempt was a bust.  We hooked up our new controller to the motor and reattached it to the bike.  And let me tell you, stripping, clamping, splicing and fitting wires is no easy feat.  Steve's hopes were high, but I wouldn't let myself get excited.  Somehow I knew it wouldn't work, and I'm sorry to say I was right.  Nothing like turning the throttle only to hear silence.  The sun is setting now, and I have a terrible chill.  There's not much to do now but pack up the tools and try again tomorrow. 1. Hey there!

My name is Alix, and I could not help but get stuck on this story of yours. You seem like a real sweet person. . . in fact you remind me a bit of my own girlfriend to tell you the truth.

I just wanted to pop in to say don't give up! I am just about certain this guy you found recently may be able to help you out, and a hell of allot better than that -insert inappropriate context here- who sold you that thing to begin with and then gave you no support after it went bad.

I can assure you that I will be following your story here on out, and if I find any information that could help out I'll be sure to let you know first thing.

So come on! You can do this! There is a way to fix this, it's just a matter of finding one.

On the side, may I ask the name/model of your bike and it's specs?

    1. Wow! Thank you so much for reading my story and saying such nice things. There have been so many times I have just wanted to give up...but then I read something like this and I'm right back at it.)
Here is a link to the bike's page and specs (from Voisen "useless" motors)-

      http://www.travelectricusa.com/td690.html

but we also found the original manufacturer in China-
Escooterschina.com--The model here is called HR-020-1
but it is essentially the same bike.

      Stay tuned.......and thank you!!!

  2. This Voisen guy appears to be a complete scam artist! When I went to his website's 'About' page from the link you provided, I saw an image of him in front of a mansion with a vintage Rolls Royce out front. The image is from a poster I had on my wall as a kid in the early 70's. I then went to Google Images and did a search for "My tastes are simple. I like to have the best." which was printed in the bottom left of the poster. The poster came up as the first result. Same exact image, shadows, leaves on the trees, everything. Looking back at the image on his website, it appears that the image of him was superimposed and the text was rubber stamped to remove. There is sunlight on his face but no additional shadow cast by his head on the ground. I put both images in Photoshop to compare them side by side and it is definitely the same image, minus him (and his is distorted as well). Anyways, a guy willing to be that deceptive is obviously well versed in conning people so don't beat yourself up.

In regards to your problem; I used to work for a company that made scooters exactly like this (12 years ago). In fact they had the patent on the hub motor and 9 times out of 10 the problems were caused by the controller, not the hub motor. There is no room for error when you select and hook up the controller. If the original that it came with gave out, you certainly cannot expect to hook up one that is not rated the same and expect it to last, if it even works in the first place. More importantly, you have to hook them up 100% correctly or you'll fry them every time. The circuitry is very delicate so here's no guess work to it. Do it right or buy another controller and start over.

Get a wiring schematic and a new controller from the company you found in China that makes the same model and you should be able to get it going again. Good luck.

  3. I HATE to read & hear stories like this. I will get this article posted on every motorcycle/scooter publication I can find. As a lifetime local & motorcyclist/surfer etc, these people need to be exposed & weeded out to protect those of us who love & cherish our sport & lifestyle, and live in a responsible and respectful way.....There is simply no room left these days for dishonest and abusive business practices that destroy one's desire to live & play by the rules. My heart goes out to you.

Was this a new scooter? Was it offered with ANY warranty?
